Respect in Sport Module

The following message from Tanner Treen was emailed from the SWA office last week. The Respect in Sport Module is a program developed by Sask Sport, which all provincial sport governing bodies are mandated to include as part of their coach development pathway/program. The SWA has also included this module as part of its officials development pathway/program.

The module will take you about 3.5 hrs online, and is free of charge.

Greetings to All SWA Coaches and Officials,

Firstly, I would like to thank you all for your hard work in helping to ensure that every SWA competition is a tremendous success. As a coach and official myself, I know how much work goes in to ensuring that all of the athletes, volunteers, and spectators have a positive experience when participating in / attending an SWA event, so thank you all for everything you do to make sure that each competition is better than the last!

Recently, it was brought to the attention of the SWA Board of Directors that, in order for the SWA to continue to be eligible to receive funding from SaskSport, all coaches and officials participating in SWA-sanctioned events must complete SaskSport’s Respect in Sport Online Learning Module by February 24, 2020.  I can appreciate that this announcement comes with short notice; however, it is crucial for the SWA ensure that all of our coaches and officials are certified under SaskSport's policies to work with all of our athletes and volunteers.

The course is ~2.5 hours in length and can be run on any device that supports a Flash plugin. For coaches, you can input your NCCP number during the registration process and the certificate will automatically be added to your Locker.

Please follow the link below to register  in the course:

As part of the registration process, please select Saskatchewan Weightlifting Association Inc. as your affiliated Association (as well as any other associations of which you are a member) and add your NCCP Locker number to ensure that your certificate is uploaded to your Locker upon completion.

Once you have completed the course, please email a copy of your certificate to Dwayne Dreher (edir@saskweightlifting.com) so that we can create a record of who is certified.

Thank you again!

Sincerely,

Tanner Treen

Funding of Athletes, Male and Female, to the Senior National Championships

The SWA Board of Directors, at a meeting on January 25th, approved a motion to fully fund the top Female and Male lifters to the Senior National Championships, providing they meet or surpass 80% of their marker.

SWA 50/50 Raffle

For those who attended the SWA Masters competition on February 8th, you would have noticed the table which was set up to sell 50/50 tickets. In an attempt to raise funds for its Youth/Junior Development programs, the SWA will conduct 50/50 raffles at the remainder of its sanctioned events this season, including the Western Canadians at the end of March. The proceeds, as legislated by Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming, may only be used for athletes 18 yrs of age and under.

For Senior athletes out there, if you have fundraising ideas, please email me.
