SWA Newsletter - October 2022

Hi Everyone,

I hope your training is going well, and I look forward to seeing many of you this weekend at the Winter Games Trials in Saskatoon hosted by Kilostalk Weightlifting. Thank you again to Jason Trinh for taking the lead on hosting this event! We could not host competitions like this without the support of our Training Centers and our members.

New Information:

  1. Western Canadian Championships: Congratulations to the 10 Men and 10 Women (See below) selected to Team A to represent Saskatchewan at the 2022 Western Canadian Weightlifting Championships in Calgary, AB, on Nov 19th. They will be led by Head Coach Chad Benko, Coach Jason Cain, and Manager Crista Coughlin. We are still finalizing our Officials line-up, but we hope to send several Officials for upgrading and potentially a few additional athletes on Team B.

  2. SWA Town Hall, Oct 25th from 6:30-7:30 pm via Zoom (Link): Open format (Q&A) town hall hosted by Dwayne and myself. There will be no formal agenda, but we will be available during this time to answer questions, address concerns, and help provide updates on what we are working on with the SWA. This is a great time to ask questions about the Board if you are considering running for a position in December (See the link below for more information).

  3. Updated Training Center Document (Awaiting Board finalization/Approval): This is an updated Training Center document outlining and consolidating various elements of the Training Center program, volunteer hours, and funding available. The document has not officially been approved by the Board. If you have any feedback, please let me know. It includes a link to a Google Form where you can submit TC Volunteer Hours.

  4. Updated Competition Hosting Document (Awaiting Board finalization/Approval): This is an updated document outlining the various responsibilities of Training Centers and the SWA regarding hosting sanctioned competitions. The document has not officially been approved by the Board. If you have any feedback, please let me know.

  5. Criminal Record Checks for Coaches and Volunteers (Link to Letter): If you are due for an updated Criminal Record Check, or have not completed one, and are actively coaching, officiating, or volunteering with the SWA, please remember to complete yours and submit the letter to Dwayne (edir@saskweightlifting.com) as soon as you can. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dwayne (edir@saskweightlifting.com).

  6. 2022-2023 SWA Rankings, Certificates, & SWA Records: These are up-to-date. If there are any errors or omissions, please let me know.

  7. Sask Sport Lifetime Volunteer Dedication Award (Deadline: Nov 1, 2022): The SWA Board is looking to nominate an outstanding long-time SWA volunteer (Current or Past) for this award. If you have any suggestions for possible nominations, please let Dwayne (edir@saskweightlifting.com) know ASAP. This award was previously presented to SWA members Ken Trofimuk and Jocelyne Moe.

Reminders:

  1. 2022 SWA Board of Directors Election Details: Elections for SWA President & Member-at-Large (3-year terms) will occur leading into the 2022 SWA AGM on Dec 11, using the same process as the last 3 years. Please see the linked document for details & timelines.

  2. SK Winter Games: If you are interested in being considered for either Coach or Manager in your region for the 2023 Saskatchewan Winter Games, please contact Ken Trofimuk (Kenbod@saskweightlifting.com) and Dwayne Dreher (edir@saskweightlifting.com) for more information.
