SWA ATHLETE PROFILE - ISABELLA THOMPSON HILL

“ My journey into weightlifting started through CrossFit. I was a competitive dancer and baton twirler. I’d go to school in the mornings and train all afternoon. On Fridays we would have Rebecca (co-owner of CrossFit 306 in Saskatoon) come coach us CrossFit.  This was an added piece of strength and cardio cross- training for our dance program.

I did that program from Oct. 2018 to Sep.2020 but decided to not continue the dance program I was in, as I wanted to try something new. I really enjoyed the CrossFit training we did through dance so I ended up trying the teen program at CrossFit 306 to fill up my afternoons. Through this program I got introduced to weightlifting.

The first couple days were rough as it’s was a huge change for me. I went from never using my hands to grip anything, to constantly holding a barbell. But I immediately loved it, and the community it came with. Before starting I didn’t know what to expect with weightlifting and I never planned on competing, but after a month I knew I found the sport for me. It’s definitely come with a lot for challenges but with my incredible coaches Jason Cain and TJ Nicholson they have helped me  work through all of those challenges.

My coaches have helped me immensely to get me where I am now, including breaking provincial records lifts as a Jr:

- snatch 71kgs

- C&J 89kg

I’ve also recently squatted 140kgs in the last month!

My main goal for this year was to hit a 160 kg total which I did last competition (last chance qualifier March 2022), and now I am hoping to hit a 95kg c&J.
